The Majolika technique apparently matches Keils working method. On the white layer of the first glaze, that is applicated onto the raw clay, the artist is able to paint directly on this surface as if it was his canvas. The white underglaze brightens up the intensity of Keils palette. The artists brushstroke seems to be as spontaneous and expressiv as if painted on paper or canvas. But still the majolika technique is something totally different. To paint with these special colours, that look dull and pale before burning, needs special attention, carefulness and experience.
The results Keil achieved in a short but very intense time are very convincing! They give evidence of the joy and passion with which the artist launched into this experiment.
