We are faced with a striking amount of heads and bodies in the artwork of P.R. Keil – they are destined to express all possible shades of human mental state or behaviour: overwhelmin joy, childish naivety, curiousness, love of adventure, melancholy, depressiveness, lust for live, eroticism, closeness, refusal. Especially women or the female nude take up a key role in Keils work. Women appear as vamp, muse, voluptuous being, they behave all-dominant or very shy and are certainly the ever luring seducement for men. Frequently in this context a devil occurs – maybe a synonym for the brute side of mankind? Trying to grasp all ever thinkable facet of life that’s what Keils work is all about. Thereby Keils painting captures because of his outstanding sense for colour – these colours are sometimes quite daring, not to say violent, but in either case touching.
